About David
Becoming, one
mile at a time.
David is a designer, husband, father, and the founder of Academy Running Club. He didn’t grow up an athlete, and he didn’t start running because he was good at it. He started because he needed something to change. This is that story, in ten chapters.
Chapter 01
Before the Runner
For more than six years, David has worked in web design, UX/UI, product design, and branding — the founder of Webital, building digital work across healthcare, wellness, and fitness brands. Creativity has always been part of who he is. Running came later. He didn’t build his identity around being a competitive runner. He built it around wanting something to change.
Chapter 02
245
Pounds · April 2024
245
That’s where it started — low energy, back pain, and a decision he couldn’t put off any longer. It wasn’t about marathons. It wasn’t about pace. It was about feeling better.
“245 pounds wasn’t the end of my story. It was page one.”
Chapter 03
First Miles
He started moving. Then he started running. The distances got longer. The challenges got harder. Every time he did something he didn’t believe he could do, the definition of possible changed.
“You don’t have to see the entire transformation when you begin. You just have to start moving.”
Chapter 04
26.2
Long Beach Marathon · Oct 2025
26.2
Going from a first mile in April 2024 to 26.2 in October 2025 is the whole story in one number. Two months later, he lined up for HYROX — running fused with functional fitness. A different kind of hard, and proof the challenges were only getting bigger.
Chapter 05
Setback
November 2025: IT Band Syndrome and shin splints in his left leg. He was told recovery could take six to eight months — and that the LA Marathon might not be realistic. This isn’t a story about running through pain. It’s about what came after — uncertainty, rehab, patience, and rebuilding trust in his own body.
“Progress doesn’t always look impressive while you’re inside of it. None of these felt like much at the time. They were the whole comeback.”
Chapter 07
Los Angeles
March 8, 2026. After the injury, after the uncertainty, after rebuilding mile by mile — David made it to the start line, and then the finish line, of the LA Marathon. Sub-four hours. The time matters less than the arc: setback, recovery, rebuilding, belief, finish line.
Chapter 08
David Moves
Through David Moves, he started sharing the training, the setbacks, and the finish lines — and it grew from zero to more than 40,000 people following along.
“I don’t run to be better than you. I run to become better than me.”
Chapter 09
ACADEMY
Est. 2026 · Go Run
Academy
Eventually the journey became bigger than one person. Academy Running Club — ARC — is built around everyone still learning: the beginner, the person walking part of their first 5K, the one coming back after a bad week. The first product, GO RUN 001, is a sleeveless top born from an honest problem — David sweats through everything else. Community shows up every Tuesday for a virtual 5K. No pace requirement. Just show up.
Chapter 10
Run your own race.
Discipline outlasts motivation.
It’s okay to stop. Just decide to continue.
One more mile.
Finish.
None of this started with talent. It started with a decision, and then another one, and then thousands more. If this can help someone else move, believe, or start again, that’s worth more than any finish line.
GO RUN.
With gratitude — to God, and to his wife and kids, for every early morning this took.
